Self-perception of discrimination and/or disadvantage and the reasons for it
The chart documents self-reported discrimination and disadvantage among sports-interested respondents in two survey waves (2023 and 2025). It covers both the overall prevalence of perceived discrimination and ten specific reasons — ranging from physical ability and age to religion and sexual orientation.
The share of respondents reporting having felt discriminated against rises from 34% in 2023 to 37% in 2025. Among the reported reasons, physical ability records the largest absolute shift: from 11% in 2023 to 32% in 2025. Ethnic origin and mentality moves from 8% to 31%, social origin from 8% to 30%, and gender and gender identity from 7% to 29%. At the lower end, sexual orientation increases from 4% to 10%, and mental ability from 3% to 11%. Across all ten categories, 2025 values are higher than their 2023 counterparts, with physical ability showing the largest two-year gap at 21 percentage points.
