Importance of sport as a driver for diversity and variety in society

The chart documents how people interested in sports in Germany assess the role of sport in promoting diversity and countering discrimination in society (February 2023). Respondents rated this role on a four-point scale ranging from "very large, superordinate" to "very small, subordinate."

A combined 69% assign sport a large or very large role in this context. The single largest share falls on "rather large, superordinate role" at 47%. A "very large, superordinate role" is selected by 22% of respondents. On the opposite end of the scale, only 3% rate the role as "very small, subordinate." A further 19% choose "rather small, subordinate role," and 8% give no answer.
