Diversity ranking of different sports
The chart documents which sport respondents most associate with diversity — measured via both aided and unaided recall, following a preceding definition of diversity based on the Diversity Charter. The comparison between the two response modes reveals differences in prompted versus spontaneous association across 20 named sports (Germany, February 2023).
Soccer ranks first in both conditions: 22.4% in the aided setting and 17.5% unaided. Athletics follows in second place with 11.9% aided, but drops to 4.1% unaided. Dance reaches 7.0% aided and 1.7% unaided — the third-highest aided value. The gap between aided and unaided responses is particularly wide for the "other sport" category, where the unaided share of 11.9% substantially exceeds the aided figure of 1.3%. Nearly half of respondents — 49.2% — give no unaided answer at all, compared to 20.9% in the aided condition.
