Intention to follow the matches of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022
The chart documents the viewing intentions of soccer-interested respondents in Germany toward the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, surveyed in late October 2022 shortly before the tournament. Respondents were asked whether and in what form they planned to follow the matches.
The largest share — 36% — planned to watch selected games only. Full tournament coverage was intended by 28% of respondents. Among those with partial viewing plans, 19% stated they would follow exclusively the games of the German national team. A further 4% planned to tune in from the knockout round onwards, and 3% only for the final. One in ten respondents — 10% — stated they would not watch the World Cup at all. Combined, respondents planning to watch at least some portion of the tournament account for 90% of the soccer-interested sample.
