Agreement with selected statements on equality in sport
The chart documents agreement with seven statements on gender equality in sport among sports-interested respondents in Germany (February 2023). The statements span pay parity, officiating roles, coaching, media coverage, management representation, and gender-neutral competition formats.
Equal pay for female athletes draws the broadest agreement: 49% fully agree, with a further 30% rather agreeing — a combined 79%. The use of female referees in men's competitions follows closely, with 45% fully agreeing and 34% rather agreeing. A female coach in men's soccer is supported by 40% fully and 33% rather agreeing. Demand for more media coverage of women's sport reaches a combined 72%, though the fully-agree share drops to 34%. Support for more female managers in clubs and associations stands at 29% fully and 38% rather agreeing. Gender-neutral competition classes — both in amateur and professional sport — receive the lowest combined agreement, at 53% each, with disagreement shares of 35% and 35% respectively.
