Number of matches followed in German professional soccer leagues per season in a generational comparison
The dataset documents match consumption intensity across four German professional soccer leagues — Bundesliga, 2. Bundesliga, 3. Liga, and Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga — broken down by total viewers, Gen Z, and Best Agers. Data were collected in Germany in March 2026.
In the Bundesliga, 64% of total viewers follow many or almost all matches (>50%). Gen Z reaches the same combined share at 69%, while Best Agers sit at 46%. The generational gap is consistent across leagues: in the 3. Liga, 64% of Gen Z viewers watch many or almost all matches, compared to 40% of Best Agers. Best Agers show a higher concentration in the "some matches" bracket across all four leagues — reaching 35% in both the 2. Bundesliga and the 3. Liga. The Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga records the lowest high-intensity viewing overall: only 17% of total viewers follow more than 80% of matches, with 22% following fewer than 20%.
