Effect and use of English terms at German sporting events and in event titles
The dataset documents how sport-interested people in Germany assess the use of English terms at German sporting events and in event titles — surveyed in July 2025. The data cover two dimensions: the perceived effect of English terminology and attitudes toward its use in practice.
On the effect side, 41% associate English terms with an international character, making it the most frequently cited attribute. "Modern" follows at 34%. "Authentic", "unsuitable for German events", and "emotionally charged" each land at 20%, while 19% consider English terms exaggerated.
On the usage side, the picture is more divided. 33% say they would prefer more German terms — the largest single response in this dimension. "Contemporary and appropriate" is chosen by 27%, while 19% view English terms as inauthentic. A further 18% say they are indifferent as long as the event itself is good.
