Effect of language styles in sports event titles in a target group comparison
The survey documents how sports-interested respondents in Germany assess different language styles in sports event titles — specifically which style appears more professional and brand-strengthening. The comparison spans three subgroups: sports-interested adults overall, Gen Z, and Best Agers 55+. Data were collected in July 2025.
Among sports-interested respondents overall, 40% rate Classic German terminology (e.g. Endspiel, Meisterschaften, Duell) as more professional and brand-strengthening. The Modern American style (e.g. Finals, Challenge, Battle) receives 25%. A mixture of both styles scores 31%.
The subgroup comparison reveals a pronounced divergence. Gen Z rates Modern American highest at 37%, while Classic German reaches only 27% within this group. Best Agers 55+ show the inverse pattern: 46% favor Classic German, whereas Modern American scores 12% — the lowest value across all subgroups and style options in this comparison. The mixed approach draws 38% among Best Agers and 29% among Gen Z.
