Expected channels for following the 2026 FIFA World Cup in a generational comparison

The chart documents which channels soccer-interested people in Germany plan to use to follow the 2026 FIFA World Cup, surveyed in March 2026. Results are broken down by three groups: all soccer-interested respondents, Gen Z (up to 30 years), and Best Agers (55+).

Among all soccer-interested respondents, streaming services and linear TV are tied at 41% each — the two front-runners overall. The generational gap on linear TV is the widest contrast in the dataset: 69% of Best Agers plan to use ARD, ZDF, or RTL, compared to just 29% of Gen Z. Social media (Instagram, TikTok, X) shows the reverse pattern: 33% among Gen Z versus 8% among Best Agers. Live tickers and sports apps reach 30% across both the total group and Gen Z, and 22% among Best Agers. Public viewing venues are planned by 26% of Gen Z and 13% of Best Agers.
