The chart documents the planned cost-cutting measures in sports among respondents in Germany (surveyed September 2022) who stated they would take austerity measures due to inflationary developments and rising energy prices. This subgroup represents 56% of all survey participants. Responses cover seven categories of sports-related spending.
Attendance-related spending leads the ranking: 52% plan to reduce stadium visits or attendance at sporting events, and 51% intend to refrain from purchasing fan merchandise. Both values are close together at the top. Among media-related categories, 31% plan to cancel sports pay-TV subscriptions such as DAZN or Sky. The cancellation of paid sports apps reaches 28%. Club memberships show the lowest share among the listed categories: 20% plan to cancel or suspend them. The residual category of other cost-cutting measures in sports is cited by 11%.
