Assessment of the problem and extent of homo- and transphobia in sports compared over time
The dataset documents how sports-interested people in Germany assess the presence of homophobia and transphobia in sports — both as a general yes/no question and broken down by severity. Two measurement points are compared: 2023 and 2025.
The share agreeing that homo- and transphobia constitute a general problem in sports rises from 49% in 2023 to 55% in 2025. The severity breakdown shows a more pronounced shift. Those rating it a "big problem" double from 10% to 20% over the same period. The "rather big problem" category rises from 28% to 61%, the largest absolute change in the breakdown. At the lower end, those rating it a "rather small problem" also increase, from 8% to 17%. The "very small problem" share remains at the lowest level across both years, reaching 2% in 2025.
