Comparison of interests between selected women's and men's sports
The chart documents interest in selected sports, comparing women's and men's disciplines directly. Eight sports are covered, ranging from soccer to golf. The data were collected in Germany in February 2023.
Soccer shows the largest gap between disciplines: the women's game reaches 58% interest, while the men's game stands at 86%. Handball follows a similar pattern — 37% for the women's discipline versus 58% for the men's. Basketball also shows a wide spread, with 28% for women and 49% for men.
- Biathlon: women 53%, men 52%
- Alpine skiing: women 49%, men 51%
- Tennis: women 48%, men 50%
- Volleyball: women 35%, men 34%
In four sports — biathlon, alpine skiing, tennis, and volleyball — the gap between women's and men's disciplines is within two percentage points. Volleyball is the only sport where the women's discipline (35%) edges above the men's discipline at 34%.
