National distribution of religions or denominations among people interested in sports
The chart documents the religious affiliation of sports-interested adults, based on a survey conducted in February 2023. Respondents were asked which religion or denomination they belong to. The data cover seven categories, from the major world religions to the unaffiliated.
Christianity is the largest group among sports-interested respondents, at 58%. The second-largest group consists of those with no religious affiliation, at 35% — placing them ahead of all other individual religious communities combined. Islam follows at 5%, while all remaining denominations — Judaism (0.35%), Buddhism (0.30%), Hinduism (0.05%), and other affiliations (1.53%) — each account for well under 2%. The unaffiliated share and Christianity together cover over 90% of the sports-interested sample. Among the specifically named non-Christian faiths, Islam at 5% is the only group to surpass the 1% threshold.
